Velburg Castle
In the picturesque Velburg in Bavaria, I found the ruins of a defensive tower with an ideal shape for the anti-virus software icon. The solid walls, the sharp edges, the embrasure (in military architecture: the opening in a battlement) and the flag formed a characteristic whole. After about 20 minutes climbing to the top of the hill, I finally stood on the terrace of the tower and in the setting sun looked slowly around the region, covered with forest clumps and cross-country roads. The view compensated for all the hardships. In such a place I would live with pleasure. I wondered if the castle owners themselves had appreciated the tranquility of this place and enjoyed a happy life here. Or maybe they had to defend their property several times while being in conflict with their neighbor or local magnate?
