Óvár (Mosonmagyaróvár) Castle

The Óvár (Mosonmagyaróvár) Castle (Hungarian: Óvár vár; German: Óvárer Burg) was built about 1000 years ago by King Stephen I of Hungary on the site of the former military camp of the Roman Empire called Ad Flexum. After reconstruction, especially in the 16th century, it was given more or less its present form. The title photo was taken in February 2024, after the façade renovation.

The facility has been partially restored, also internally, where there is a museum presenting the history of the castle.

The castle moat is a habitat for, among others, muskrats.
